command not found

When you type git, node or npm in the terminal and see something like this.

text
zsh: command not found: git
'node' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Cause

It is one of two things.

  • It is not installed.
  • It is installed, but Cursor was already open before you installed it, so it does not know yet.

Fix

  1. Quit Cursor completely. Quit the app, not just the window (Windows: right-click the taskbar icon → Close window, Mac: ⌘+Q).
  2. Open it again and try the command in the terminal again.
  3. If it still does not work, it is not installed → go through Install again. On Windows, restarting after installing is the sure way.
